On 31 December 2024, Kombiverkehr’s wagon fleet remained unchanged at 361 wagons of different designs. The joint leasing agreement with DB Cargo ended on 15 December 2024, when the responsibility for deploying all proprietary and pocket wagons returned to Kombiverkehr in full. At about 30.9 million kilometres, the total running time for these wagons is slightly up on the previous year. The consistently poor punctuality record of the railway undertakings is having a direct impact on the operational efficiency of the goods wagons.
As part of the transformation begun in July 2024, involving the transfer of traction services from DB Cargo to other undertakings, Kombiverkehr has now also taken on the operational and capacity utilisation risk for a significantly larger proportion of leased goods wagons. On 31 December 2024 the leased fleet comprised approx. 1,300 wagons from DB Cargo and other providers. This represents an increase of about 800 vehicles on the first half of 2024.
Deployment and damaged wagon management for the proprietary and leased wagons is handled by a newly established team at our affiliate Dienstleistungsgesellschaft für Intermodale Verkehre mbH (DIV). The entity in charge of maintenance (ECM) for Kombiverkehr’s own wagons since as far back as 2022, DIV operates mobile goods wagon workshops at the Köln-Eifeltor and Duisburg-Ruhrort Hafen terminals.
Kombiverkehr and DIV are working together with our wagon lessors, suppliers, workshop and IT service providers to develop solutions for the efficient utilisation of the wagon fleet, such as mobile and preventive wagon maintenance concepts.
