Kombiverkehr holds a stake in 16 terminal operators, who form the point of access to Kombiverkehr’s network. Assuming average transport volumes and regular operations, the capacities at many leading transshipment terminals in Germany and elsewhere in Europe are largely fully utilised.

Kombiverkehr holds 12.5 per cent of the shares in Deutsche Umschlaggesellschaft Schiene-Straße (DUSS) mbH. The company transferred 1.8 million loading units in 2024, a decline of 5 per cent on the previous year (1.88 million). DUSS operates 24 national terminals.

The Duisburg-Ruhrort Hafen terminal, which is owned by Planungsgesellschaft Kombinierter Verkehr (PKV), acts as a central hub for Kombiverkehr in the national and international train network. In the year under report the operator, DUSS, increased transshipment figures at the PKV site by 1.6 per cent to 166,475 loading units (previous year: 163,901).

Neuss Trimodal GmbH transferred 143,736 loading units in the 2024 financial year. This compares with 150,468 the year before.

Kombi-Terminal Ludwigshafen GmbH (KTL) was able to maintain its status as Germany's busiest inland terminal in the last financial year. The facility, which is jointly operated by BASF SE, Kombiverkehr and other partners, transshipped 304,332 loading units in 2024, an increase of 0.12 per cent on the year before (303,885).

TriCon Container Terminal Nürnberg GmbH transferred a total of 194,710 loading units in 2024 (previous year: 186,520), which represents a rise of 4.4 per cent. Kombiverkehr has a 25 per cent stake in the company.

Last year the terminal operated by Roland Umschlagsgesellschaft Bremen mbH & Co. KG in the Bremen freight village (GVZ) achieved an increase to 99,143 in the number of loading units transshipped, up from 92,874 the year before.

At the Port of Hamburg, Eurokombi Terminal GmbH posted a 10 per cent increase in transshipment volumes in the last financial year to 419,588 loading units (previous year: 381,380).

Rostock Trimodal GmbH saw a decline of 3 per cent to 111,772 loading units transferred (previous year: 115,208).

KombiPort Kiel GmbH operates transshipment facilities at Kiel Ostuferhafen and Schwedenkai. Both of these sites are hubs for traffic not only with Scandinavia, but also with the Baltic region and Russia. The number of loading units transferred came to 12,903, 38.4 per cent below the figure for the previous year (20,931).

Last year Baltic Rail Gate GmbH in Lübeck increased its transshipment figures to 123,909 loading units, up 10.5 per cent on the previous year’s 112,096.

The rapid transfer facility operated by MegaHub Lehrte GmbH in Hanover and connected to the KV network has six 700-metre platforms, two gantry cranes and a fully automated sorting system. These provide the best conditions for the development of marketable intermodal services between locations that do not handle sufficient volumes for block trains. A total of 72,827 (previous year: 79,775) loading units were transferred in 2024, a fall of 8.7 per cent.

Kombiverkehr has a stake in Südwestfalen Container Terminal GmbH, which operates a transshipment facility covering a total surface area of some 18,500 square metres at the Kreuztal terminal. It began operations in May 2019. In 2024 1,101 loading units were transshipped (previous year: 3,564).

At the end of 2022 Kombiverkehr founded Kombiterminal Mortara S.r.l. as the operator for the transshipment terminal in Mortara, Italy. The terminal has capacity for 70,000 transshipments and entered into operation on 1 January 2023. In 2024 the terminal transferred a total of 33,980 loading units (previous year: 36,897).

At the end of 2023 Kombiverkehr acquired 10 per cent of the shares in Rail Hub Milano S.r.l., Melzo. The site offers additional options for expanding Kombiverkehr's network in northern Italy. In the year under report 180,513 loading units (previous year: 170,667) were transshipped.
