Just as they did in previous years, in 2024 our company’s customers again made a hugely positive contribution to sustainability in Combined Transport. That is because every shipment transported by climate-friendly rail means less harmful carbon dioxide is emitted compared with carrying the same quantity of goods and freight in end-to-end road haulage. On a direct comparison the reduction in CO₂ averages over 80 per cent. In absolute terms, a total of 1.12 million tonnes less carbon dioxide were emitted in the 2024 financial year, achieved through a daily average of 3,100 combined truck and rail shipments on 248 days of operation.
To meet the rising demands of forwarding companies, which are increasingly having to state the emissions figures for rail in their sustainability reports, we have been working on a system for transport emissions accounting with the Hamburg software company shipzero since the beginning of 2025. In shipzero, Kombiverkehr has found a partner that brings the necessary expertise and whose calculation methods meet both current GLEC requirements and the ISO 14083 standard. Shipping orders recorded by shipzero are to be automatically imported the same day into Kombiverkehr's order processing system, where interface solutions enable them to reach downstream IT applications offering customer access. Emissions balances for Kombiverkehr’s customers are to be provided retroactively on the basis of shipments from the start of 2025.
As another component of its sustainability strategy, in 2024 Kombiverkehr successfully conducted and completed the double materiality analysis in preparation for the future requirements of sustainability reporting.
